Michael Talarico, our student from the Strathfield North location, was one of the ten recipients of the Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Student Achievement during a special ceremony at the Sir John Clancy Auditorium at the University of NSW on Friday 25, 2006.

Five more students from “Aristotelis” Greek Language Education received their Highly Commended and Commended awards.

Nominated students must excel in all criteria to be considered for the awards. They must be able to display adequate competency in their chosen language, other than English, and be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of cultural issues and to have actively participated or contributed in various activities in both their regular day school as well as their language school.

More than one thousand proud parents, family members and friends attended the ceremony, an annual event that celebrates cultural and linguistic diversity.
The Minister for Education & Training Hon. Carmel Tebbutt highlighted the importance of learning additional languages and congratulated all language schools for their efforts in achieving the desirable results.

The Minister paid tribute to the Community Languages Department and to the NSW Federation of Community Language Schools and its President Mr. Albert Vella for their continuous efforts in the promotion of languages other than English.

It should be noted that more than 36,000 students learn their mother tongue in afternoon or Saturday schools.
