E-mail Print PDF

The New South Wales Minister for Education and Training has appointed Ms Virginia Judge, Parliamentary Secretary for Education, to conduct a Review of the Community Languages Schools Programs.

The Review will include a Round Table Discussion and four Forums, two in Sydney and two in regional New South Wales. Organisations operating community languages schools received invitations to one of the Forums. As part of the review, a Roundtable Discussion was held in Parliament House where key stakeholders in Language Education were invited.

Groups such as the Community Relations Commission, Modern Languages Teachers Association, Secondary, and Primary Schools Principals Associations, D.E.T officials,
representatives from community language schools, and CLS Board, as well our Principal Mr. Bill Gonopoulos, took part in the discussions.

We urge your school’s Management Committee to take this opportunity and send a representative. If more schools and languages are represented at these review meetings, more issues will be discussed and more views will be expressed.

We understand of course that we are all busy but we should not miss this opportunity that is presented in very long time for the community language schools to get the message directly out to the wider community and the State Government about the important role community language schools provide in the area of quality language education.

Schools and interested members of the public can send their submissions by email, fax or post to the Community Language Schools Program.
The Federation of Community Languages Schools and our organisation encourage members, teachers, parents and students to write a submission on things they consider important in dealing with community language schools.

Please visit the website of the DET to find details. www.det.nsw.edu.au/eas/commlang or look in Google: Community Languages Schools Program. Go to the home page and click on Terms of Reference. Answer the questions and then forward them by clicking on the “Call for Submission”
